Greek Orthodox Weddings Long Island

Greek Orthodox churches are some of the most beautiful representations of architecture anywhere. From the elaborate paintings which adorn the ceilings and walls to the beautiful gold chalices on the altar everything about a Greek Orthodox wedding inspires elegance and tradition. On the altar with the wedding couple is their Koumbaro or Koumbara, their wedding sponsor. This role is often assumed by the maid of honor or the best man but can be someone else chosen by the bride and groom. No formal vows are spoken by the bride or groom, their betrothel being spoken by the priest and acknowledged by the newlyweds. Wedding candles are presented to the couple and later in the service comes the crowning ceremony wherein the priest places crowns on both the bride and groom which are then exchanged back and forth between their heads by the sponsor. Unlike the rule that kings and queens typified, this service calls the wedding couple to rule over their household as Christians who are blessed with humility, patience and unselfish love.Virtually every single important part of a Greek Wedding Ceremony is performed three times.
