Hamptons Montauk Beach Wedding Photography
I am often asked by bride’s and grooms to do a "Trash The Dress" shoot after the wedding day. A lot of brides today realize that having their wedding dress cleaned, packaged and heir-loomed for the future is a waste of time and money. Really...you wouldn’t dream of wearing your Mother’s wedding dress on your wedding day, would you? Do you think your own daughter is going to want to wear your dress 20 or 30 years from now? Of course not. Now don’t get me wrong here. I truly understand that the choice of your wedding gown was an important one. You probably looked at and tried on many different styles before you found the one that was perfect just for you. Then you spent a small fortune on it along with your head piece, veil, shoes and all the other little accessories to compliment it. It is a shame also to just put it in a vacuum-sealed bag and a fancy box and toss it in the attic never to be looked at, or worn, again.Therein was born the concept of Trash The Dress sessions. Somewhere, way back when, some really cool bride got the awesome idea of doing a really creative photo session with their wedding photographer taking pictures at some wild location, or under some crazy circumstances, that you would never consider on your wedding day. I love doing these sessions. They are so much fun and can be as creative and adventurous as your own personality. This bride loved the ocean and wanted so badly to do an amazing photography session on the beach, in the dunes and in the water. Her New York wedding schedule was tight as she actually lived out of state and was only going to be in town for a couple of days. I love telling people that we did this session four days BEFORE her wedding! No, it wasn’t her actual wedding day gown...she bought a second dress just for this session. I urged her to go to a local thrift shop and pick up any old gown for $25.00 because it wouldn’t matter once she entered the ocean surf. She chose, instead, to buy the sample off the rack at the shop that sold her the real wedding day dress. We created a lot of awesome images on the beach that day.I love doing these second day shoots and I actually offer couture pre-wedding or post-wedding photography sessions out of my studio. They are perfect for those special couples that are looking for something unique and dramatic in their wedding photography but can’t pull it off logistically on the actual wedding day. If you are one of those creative, adventurous couples than I urge you to get in touch with me so that we can collaborate on some fantastic ideas.
