Amish Farmers 3 Generations Professional Travel Adventure Photographer
One of my favorite travel destinations of all time is The Amish Country surrounding Lancaster, Pennsylvania; so much so that in 2021 I made three separate trips to the region. I am in awe of this segment of our population…their spirit of community and the incredible work ethic they possess. This photograph, made on an Amish farm near Soudersburg, PA, captures that essence of this subset of American society. Pictured here are three generations of an Amish family at day’s end, gathered together at sunset as their daily work is drawing to a close. The family dog and one of the many working horses of the farm even made an appearance for this picture. I captured this image quite discreetly, using my Nikon mirrorless camera and a long Nikkor telephoto zoom lens, from a hidden vantage point inside a vehicle that was welcomed earlier onto the farm property. I watched this scene unfold before me and refrained from taking any photographs…not wanting to intrude upon the intimate moment. But the photographer’s urge got the better of me as the sun set highlighting the clouds behind the folks in the picture. I only wished I had succumbed to this photographic urge a few minutes earlier as the scene was much more dramatic at that moment in time. Still, I am satisfied with this creation and feels it really captured the spirit of the moment and the essence of this lifestyle. The best of all worlds are part of my life these days. I get to enjoy my passions of riding my motorcycle to far off destinations, capturing exquisite photographs during my adventures and writing about them afterwards; either in printed magazines and online media outlets, or in full length works of literature such as my book. "Road Work: Images and Insights of a Modern Day Explorer". This work, which reached #1 bestseller Road Travel status on Amazon is available in paperback and Kindle versions on that platform. It is also available on Apple Books. If your organization is looking for fresh new contributors, in the form of writers, photographers or travelers, I encourage you to contact me with your next creative project. My travels have taken me throughout The United States and Canada, and will certainly continue to do so in 2022. It’s what I’m about. It’s what I do. Any of the images you see here on my web site are available as stock photographs for purchase and/or lease. I have an extensive body of work created here in The Pennsylvania Dutch region, including images of The Amish and Mennonite populations at work on their farmland or traveling the beautiful countryside in their horse-drawn buggies.
