"Running Man", "Out of the Blocks", "The Sprinter", "On Your Mark". I haven’t come up with the final title for this image yet, but it is certainly one of my favorite conceptual portraits of all time. I have had the pleasure of photographing this amazing United Kingdom athlete on two occasions now. Once a year he comes to the United States and we get together to create some awesome images. This year his visit landed him in the US right after the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I had been inspired by watching the legendary Jamaican runner, Usain Bolt, garner his ninth Olympic medal in his final Olympics competition and wanted to create an image that was a tribute to the larger-than-life runner. I wanted the image to have a sculpture-like feel to it, almost as if it were cast in stone to honor the time-honored athlete. The image was captured in my Long Island, New York studio which is located just one block from the Northport Long Island Rail Road station. My model traveled out to my studio from NYC so the proximity of my studio to the LIRR makes it very convenient. Being a fairly recent image of mine It has not been displayed in any professional photography exhibits or competitions as of this writing, though I have high hopes for it’s success in the coming months.
